The Oh Be Joyful! or OBJ as it is best known was originally brewed for The Hop Pole Inn at Bromsgrove and is the only pub in that area to sell it. In years gone by it was known as “Nailers OBJ” reflecting the traditional nail making cottage industry that thrived in the area during the mid nineteenth century. In 1852 Eliza Tinsley who ran a thriving business based in the Black Country employed nearly 4000 people. Her business had warehouses in Bromsgrove and Catshill whence she would deliver wire to the area, collecting the finished nails at the end of the week and paying the workers cash in hand. Hence OBJ!
